I am Kat Theis, photographer & owner of Mustard Seed Photography. I live in the vast & sunny state of Texas, but travel worldwide for photography. I love my craft and I am incredibly blessed to have been able to make a career out of something as artistic & beautiful as photography & love :) I am spontaneous and quirky, always smiling and always looking to make others smile.

I have been doing photography for nearly 13 years, and started long ago with a vintage camera - developing my own film, processing my own prints, experimenting & learning the wondrous art of photography. For a decade, I worked in marketing in the big concrete walls and buildings that make up corporate America. But my release & passion was always in taking photos and in 2009 - I changed my pursuit and started Mustard Seed Photography. My life has changed immensely in the last few years, all for the good and in such a way that my cup is constantly overflowing.

I have the most amazing career, and luckily I get to share it with others who I'm fortunate to have join my team! Most recently, Jen joined MSP in 2013 after having been a previous client herself! In addition to being an incredibly creative second photographer, she also works in the office behind the scenes. And, I'm lucky enough to have Jen's assistance at most of our sessions and weddings :) It has been so incredible having her on the team - and has made our focus and attention on you, your wedding, and the little details, even greater!

We have met some of the most incredible people, and have had the honor and privilege of documenting their lives and their love. Without a doubt, this job is the best we have ever had :)

Our Style & Method

Photography is incredible, because it captures moments that might only last a second and documents them for a lifetime. Those are the moments that we want to capture - the moments that emerge effortlessly. Photography should capture that magic in the most authentic way - naturally, honestly, joyfully.

Mustard Seed approaches all of our work in an organic way - editing our images as little as possible, creating beautiful photographs straight out of the camera, and capturing the moments just as they are happening. The style is very photojournalistic, limiting the number of posed and staged photographs and instead, highlighting the laughter, passion, embraces - as they are occurring on their own. In this way, we can all focus on creating images that are individual to each person, family and couple.

We love shooting in natural light & at natural locations. Every month, we scout out remote spots for sessions, setting our backgrounds as some of the most gorgeous fields, ravines, cityscapes and sunsets you've ever laid eyes on. Our sessions are without a doubt fun & adventurous, and really help you come into your own by removing the distractions of the busy world around us. My job is to make everyone look their best by shooting in flattering light & angles - adding comfort to each session by letting the clients be themselves.

Laughter, fun, enthusiasm, patience, joy... all of these words describe the experience that Mustard Seed Photograph tries to create with each and every session and wedding. And above all, in everything that we do - we try to represent the grace, distinction & beauty that is naturally occurring the world around us :)
